Photorejuvenation Introduction
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a strong burst of light energy to stimulate the new growth of collagen without removing your skin tissue like a chemical peel or laser usually does. While IPL therapy is not as intense as laser treatment, it can nevertheless have incredibly beneficial effects on the skin with low risk and no down time.
Any man or woman who shows the signs of aged and sun-damaged skin may be a candidate for Photorejuvenation Skin Treatments. If you are tired of looking older than you feel, give your skin back its youthful glow with a Photorejuvenation treatment .
Photo Rejuvenation FAQs
How does Photorejuvenation work?
IPL is an abbreviation, short for “intense pulsed light”. It’s different than a laser, as it is a mix of wavelengths of light between 560 to 1200 nm, while a laser is just a single wavelength. Different light wavelengths have different effects on different layers of the skin. Photorejuvenation stimulates the natural production of collagen and treats vascular redness, pigmented brown spots, and sun damage, all at the same time.
What is the procedure like?
The procedure, itself, can take from 15–45 minutes depending on the area that is being treated. The smooth glass surface of the IPL Handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band. Treatment is generally administered in a series of 4-6 sessions. Side effects are minimal.
What happens immediately following the procedure?
Following the procedure, you may experience a few minutes or hours of slight swelling and redness.
Are FotoFacial, Photofacial, and Photorejuvenation the same thing?
These are all related terms for similar types of IPL treatments.
Is IPL™ Photorejuvenation safe?
Yes. IPL Photorejuvenation is one of the safest light-based facial treatments available. Most patients experience little or no pain during the procedure and there have been few reported long-term side effects of IPL™ Photorejuvenation. The most common side effects include redness, minor swelling, and inflammation, which usually subsides within a few hours to a few days after treatment.
What results can I expect after IPL™ treatment?
Immediately after your treatment, your skin may have a pink/red appearance (erythema) post treatment for 24-48 hours. Sunspots or hyperpigmentation may appear to be darker for a few days, and may flake off later. Overall, your skin may also look and feel tight. It will take several hours to a day or so for the treatment’s results to become noticeable. The redness will fade, and you will continue to see improvements. Depending on the condition you are treating, your experience will differ.
Is there a long recovery?
Depending on the number of conditions you are treating and the severity of the individual problem, a series of four to six treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all of your regular activities and by dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk. This also preserves the minimal down time feature that busy people appreciate so much.
