Perlane® FAQs

What is Perlane®?
Perlane® is composed of hyaluronic acid gel, a natural substance that is naturally found in your body.  Perlane® is the “sister” product of the dermal filler Restylane and they are manufactured and marketed by the same company, Medicis Aesthetics Inc. They also contain the same biocompatible hyaluronic acid.  The difference between the two fillers is in the size of the hyaluronic particles. Those in Perlane® are slightly larger and for that reason, Perlane® tends to be used for deeper, larger facial wrinkles and creases.  It is used for the correction of moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles.

What is the Perlane® procedure like?
When you come to Fiala Aesthetic Medical Spa in Orlando, we will review in detail the areas that you are concerned with.  After deciding on the appropriate sites for treatment, Perlane® is injected into your skin in tiny amounts with an ultrafine needle.  Several injections may be required to complete your treatment and because the needle is so small, most patients experience minimal discomfort.  After your Perlane® treatment, you may experience some swelling, tenderness or redness and these side effects usually disappear within two days.   Perlane® injection risks are minor, however sunbathing and outdoor activities should be avoided until any redness or swelling disappears.  Perlane® injections do not take long; most are completed within 30-45 minutes. As Perlane is gradually absorbed, the results are not permanent. Repeat injections are required to maintain your wrinkle-free face.  Most patients will require a maintenance session once a year. If you decide to stop your treatment, your wrinkles will re-appear.

Is Perlane® safe?
Yes. Perlane® and Restylane® have been used in hundreds of thousands of treatments worldwide with an excellent safety record.
